Description in the Javanese wayang retellings: He was once a king at Candi Bungalan, with the title of Prabu Bagaskara. He led an unsuccessful attack against the Gods. After being defeated, he became a hermit at Hargabelah.

Notes on the Indian retellings: His name has a striking resemblance to Brihaspati, the preceptor of the Devas (Celestial beings). But his role in the Javanese stories is very different.
